"I also thank you for the prayers

which are the best possible sign of friendship"
(to C.Luotto, 23.IV.1925)

One night during an adoration in the Cathedral at Turin after the thanksgiving Mass, Pier Giorgio remained on his knees on the marble floor lost in prayer; big drops of wax kept dropping on his clothes, on his hair and even on his forehead, and so lost was he in prayer that he didn't notice it.

Beneath the robust an lively exterior of the university student was concealed the amazing life of a mystic. He spoke to God in his own particular way, which bore the stamp of an heroic simplicity. Love for Jesus motivated his actions. He assisted at Mass and Communion daily, felt a strong mysterious urge to be near the Blessed Sacrament. During nocturnal adoration he would spend all night on his knees in profound prayer.

"I ask you to pray a lot for me, because I desperately need from God the grace to carry out my projects to good effect... Only prayers can obtain from God the desired improvement".

Many times I have seen him when partaking of the Eucharist almost transfigured, so intense was his longing for Christ. That healthy, strapping youth, bronzed by the sun and air, with clear transparent eyes, at the altar of life was a strikingly beautiful sight.

"At the feet of the Black Madonna in Oropa, I shall pray for you, though my prayers are not worth much, and I shall send you a rosary made with seeds from our garden that, let us hope, will link us in a non material bond". (to M.Beltramo, 23.X.1924)
